Firefighter/Paramedic

Monroe County Emergency Services 

Monroe County Emergency Services is accepting applications for a Full-Time Firefighter/Paramedic.  Must have possession of the appropriate state emergency medical service certification as set forth by the Department of Human Resources and Composite State Board of Medical Examiners as well as the ability to meet current requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association and the Georgia Firefighters Stan­dards and Training Act.

  Hours are 24hrs. on shift and 48 hrs. off shift.  Applicant must provide copies of certifications (most current state Paramedic certification), transcripts, valid Georgia driverís license, copy of birth certificate, copy of Social Security card, and pass a background check.  Starting salary is $11.79 per hour.   Applications can be picked up at the Monroe County Board of Commissioners Office on the 3rd floor, 38 West Main Street, Forsyth, Georgia 31029 from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm, Monday thru Friday.   Monroe County is Drug Free Workplace and an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Full-time position

Heavy Equipment Operator  

The Monroe County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for a Heavy Equipment Operator.  The work of this position involves safe and efficient operation of various heavy equipment such as a motor grader, pan, backhoe, bulldozer, and compactor that are used at the landfill or to maintain roads and drainage systems. Major duties include operating motor grader used in the maintenance of county roads. Maintains drainage systems including pulling ditches, cutting drainage ditches off roads, and laying and cleaning pipe lines. Operates gas boiler for the provision of tar for paving. Uses chain saw to clear trees from rights-of-way. Erects fences along county roadways on occasion. Repairs and maintains driveways located in the county, and any other duties assigned including manual labor when required.  Applicant must have sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position. Light Equipment Operator 

The Monroe County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for a Light Equipment Operator.  The Light Equipment Operator is responsible for the operation of various light equipment such as a tandem dump trucks, rubber tire backhoe, trenchers, and tractors with various attachments in order to maintain roads and drainage systems.  Although the incumbent may be able to operate heavy equipment, their ability will be at only a rudimentary level. Major duties include maintaining road right of ways including cutting brush/grass, removing or trimming trees, and removing other obstacles. Operates a gas boiler to heat tar and spreads asphalt for paving and patching of roadways. Operates hand held power tools and manually operated hand tools in constructing and maintaining roads, bridges and drainage systems. Erects and maintains fences along county roadways when necessary. Repairs and maintains driveways located in the county and any other duties assigned including manual labor when required.  Applicant must have sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position. Road Department

Temporary Laborer 

The Monroe County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for a temporary laborer in the Road Department.   The work of this position involves performing the actual labor used to maintain roads, drainage systems, county right-of-ways and grass cutting.  Physical demands typically include standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping, and frequent lifting of both light and heavy objects.   Deadline for applications is April 2, 2015.  Starting salary will be $8.00 per hour.  Applications will be accepted at Monroe County Commission Office, 38 West Main Street on the third floor, between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.  Applicants will be subject to a background check and drug screening. Mechanic

The Monroe County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for a Mechanic.  This position is responsible for analyzing mechanical problems and performing corrective and preventive maintenance on county vehicles, heavy and light construction equipment, and on various other equipment.   Major duties include but are not limited to tune-ups, various degrees of engine repair and vehicle maintenance, changing tires, field repairs on vehicles and equipment and the greasing of all equipment on a daily basis.  

Applicant must have a minimum of at least 3 years mechanical experience. Applicant must possess a valid Georgia CDL or be able to obtain a CDL and acquire a hazardous material license within 3 months of hire date.    Starting salary is $11.74 per hour.  Deadline for applications is April 2, 2015.  Applications will be accepted at Monroe County Commission Office, 38 West Main Street, between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.  Applicants will be subject to a background check and drug screening.
